HortResearch is creating new technologies and products that increase value for consumers, producers and manufacturers in fruit and food industries.

Our expertise in plant science is leading to new opportunities in nutraceutical and health products and we are spearheading developments at the molecular level to establish a world-class centre for plant-based biotechnology.

Locations

We have research centres in Auckland, Ruakura (Hamilton), Palmerston North, Kerikeri, Te Puke, Hawke's Bay, Nelson, Marlborough, Lincoln and Clyde.

Number of Employees

500, of whom more than 400 have training in science or engineering.

Who We Are

The company has extensive research programmes devised through close collaboration and partnership with international and New Zealand companies. As a Crown Research Institute we also carry out applied and fundamental research for the New Zealand Government.

We are dedicated to seeking environmentally sustainable solutions to problems based on leading-edge, internationally-benchmarked science. HortResearch is also an integral part of the international scientific community. Staff are encouraged to contribute to a variety of major international conferences and there is a high level of collaboration and exchange with research institutes and universities world-wide.

Employment Opportunities

We have a strong interest in scientists with skills and experience (at a minimum of PhD level or equivalent) in a wide range of fields: plant molecular biology, plant breeding, genetics, gene mapping, biochemistry, biocomputing and bioinformatics, entomology, postharvest science, sensory and consumer science, bioengineering and nutraceuticals.

There are also career opportunities for New Zealanders, Australians and others with a right to work in New Zealand who have completed postgraduate qualifications, or with research experience in these fields.
