Genetic transformation

Genetic Transformation is one of a suite of technologies known collectively as Biotechnologies which are now integral to the development of plant and life sciences. While recognising that the transformation of genes into living organisms is a sensitive subject, HortResearch believes that scientific research on Biotechnologies, including genetic transformation, is important to potentially benefit people and their environments worldwide and contribute to the economic transformation of New Zealand. By continuing to discover and by disseminating factual information, the benefits and risks of genetic transformation can be better understood and more informed decisions can be made by society. In this context:

  1. HortResearch will actively research, discover and collaborate to develop genetic transformation technology including but not limited to:
  2. HortResearch will continue to be involved in the dissemination of factual information about genetic transformation to the public and other stakeholders, always communicating in an accurate and honest manner.
  3. HortResearch will adhere rigorously to relevant NZ and/or overseas legislation related to genetic transformation.
