The New Zealand Controlled Environment Laboratory (NZCEL) is one of a number of specialist facilities based in Palmerston North. Unique to New Zealand it consists of walk-in rooms in which temperature, carbon dioxide, day length, light intensity and spectrum and plant nutrition can all be precisely regulated.
The Palmerston North Level 3 Plant Quarantine Facility and Diagnostic Laboratory (PNL3) is operated by HortResearch in Palmerston North. This facility was set up to serve HortResearch's plant breeding programme, and the need of industry to import high-value plant material. It offers high-level propagation, inspection and testing services, designed to meet New Zealand's exacting biosecurity requirements.
