- 'Bay Gold', a juicy, tangelo-like citrus fruit bred by HortResearch was the first citrus cultivar to be registered for Plant Variety Rights in New Zealand
- 'Bay Zest', 'Bay Sweetie' and 'Bay Sunset' are three new mandarin releases suitable for the home garden
- HortResearch imports, evaluates and distributes cultivars from overseas and maintains accessions in the National Citrus Germplasm Collection
- HortResearch is winding up a citrus breeding programme to breed and select citrus cultivars adapted to the New Zealand climate
