Food and ingredients

Today’s food industry is faced with huge challenges. New product development decisions are complex in the face of shorter product life cycles, increased product failure rates and conflicting consumer trends.

HortResearch has the expertise to guide you through the maze. We can help you validate product health claims, incorporate novel ingredients into your product, evaluate product stability issues and subject the product to the ultimate test of consumer appeal. We also research market trends and regulations so you can launch your product successfully.

Example

We used our unique knowledge of apple physiology and biochemical processes to prevent enzymatic browning and to ensure crispness in fresh cut fruit. Treated fruit retains its original colour and crispness for three weeks in cool (4o C) conditions and its microbiological quality is excellent (TPC<10 CFU/g).

This technology is owned by a joint venture company named Fresh Appeal (25% HortResearch and 75% Logistics Solutions) and we are about to put in place the first integrated process line for a European customer.
